Dr. Deborah MacNamara was on Real Parenting on April 23 to discuss the lost art of play and how to help to build attachment communities for our children.
Deborah MacNamaraDeborah is a Counsellor in private practice and a Faculty Member at the Neufeld Institute  and Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She is currently working on a book with Dr. Gordon Neufeld on Making Sense of Young Children. She will be speaking at the Making Tomorrow Conference in Victoria on May 7.
The Lost Art of Play: In today’s world, play can be seen as frivolous and just time spent without any purpose. There is a growing pressure for early and earlier academics, but play is actually the ‘work’ of childhood! Play is essential to developing independence, individuality and responsibility taking in children.
Building Attachment Communities: Childcare providers are the supporting cast required by many families today and there is much that can be done to foster a successful relay team. We need to cultivate attachment between our children and their child care providers so they feel home away from home.
